Find Your Light weekend course – Dronfield
Friday 7pm to Sunday 1pm
FIND YOUR LIGHT: the skill of bringing story to stage
A weekend course with Shonaleigh
At the Peel Centre, High Street, Dronfield, Derbyshire S18 1PY
Many storytellers are great at understanding story but have no performance experience. Or you see actors who are good on stage, but have very little understanding of story.
The skills that you need to stand on a stage and tell a story are different to the skills that you need to understand a story.
Both can be learned, and they can exist in the same person: Shonaleigh is testament to that, blending storytelling and performance skills seamlessly.
In this weekend course you will be introduced to storytelling techniques from the precious and unique Drut’sylla tradition.
Then you will explore tools to help you perform your story, the sort of skills that you would normally learn at a drama school, like how to hold your space on the stage, light a fire in your audience’s hearts, and how to get the audience to walk the story with you.
You do not need a pre-existing level of skills to attend this course, it is suitable for beginner storytellers and storytellers with some experience.
Do bring along a folktale or wonder tale (not myth or a legend) to work with, either one that you really love, or one that you are struggling with.
