Magical show for hospice milestone

BOLTON Symphony Orchestra is to launch the Bolton Hospice 15th anniversary celebrations in magical style at the Victoria Hall, Bolton, on Saturday.

Storyteller Shonaleigh will lead the audience on a journey through a world of mystery and magic as the concert programme unfolds.

The concert will feature film and concert hall works, including the theme from Harry Potter and excerpts from Star Wars, both by the acclaimed American composer John Williams.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, by Paul Dukas, was originally written for the concert hall, but it is now famous as the music from Walt Disney’s animated film Fantasia.

Another piece used by Walt Disney is Mussorgsky’s Night On The Bare Mountain and many will also recognise the Funeral March Of A Marionette by Charles Gounod, familiar as the theme music from Alfred Hitchcock.

Other pieces in the programme include Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns and the Ballet Suite from Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky.

Bob Chasey, BSO’s artistic director, said: “This concert will be fun for all the family and anyone coming can join the orchestra in dressing up as a favourite magical character.”

Graham Yardley, hospice chairman, said: “The orchestra and the audience are invited to dress in the spirit of Harry Potter and the school of Wizardry and take part in the Harry Potter quiz, a challenge for children and adults alike.

“As we celebrate our anniversary we reflect that the hospice has been caring for many people of Bolton whose lives have been affected by life limiting illnesses.”

He added: “This is a warm invitation for people to help us celebrate this achievement throughout 2007.”
