Jewish storyteller keeps heritage alive by telling her grandmother’s tales

Shonaleigh has devoted her life to keeping stories alive.

A third-generation Jewish “drut’syla” storyteller, Shonaleigh was recently at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival and introduced her audiences to the delightful and creative way a drut’syla shares a story. It’s a method passed down from her grandmother, who survived the Holocaust in the Auschwitz concentration camp partly because she could tell stories.

The storyteller played a critical social role in Jewish communities.
