A bold collaborative project encompassing storytelling, drama, pyrotechnics, sculpture and creative workshops is set to brighten up Sheffield’s Autumn skies from 5pm on Saturday October 20th.
The Beacons project brings together representatives from Sheffield City Council’s Parks and Countryside, Community Foresters, Art in the Park with renowned story teller Shonaleigh working with local school children to create the central story of ‘The Firebird’.
This free spectacle will take place over two sites, Parkwood Springs and Ruskin Park and is open to all.
The spectacular culmination of this project will be a incredible fire show, focusing on the burning of a fire bird, or Phoenix with a staggering 30 metre wingspan at Parkwood Springs.
Meanwhile, over the valley at Ruskin Park in Walkley the event will be celebrated in a different style, with the installation of light sculptures, UV canvases and sand pictures. In addition several workshops will be being run, helping local residents participate by building lanterns and UV sand pictures to transform Ruskin Park into a magical setting for the Beacon’s project.
