Tellers, Tales and Tradition: The Sapphire Staff
7pm - 10pm CEST each evening
An ancient warlord is looking for three objects that will give him possession of all the kingdoms of the world: the Sapphire Staff that can make the waters of the world part; a Snakeskin Cloak that smells of the apples of the Garden of Eden; and the Book Of All Things which contains the song of the sun and the thoughts of the rain. Only two can stop him… a young man whose Grandfather was cursed to be half eagle half man… and a young woman who holds the last secret of Eve’s three beautiful daughters.
The Cycle of Menasseh, to which the Sapphire Staff belongs, originated around 1600 in the Dutch region of Apeldoorn, which is very close to Zwolle, the hometown of Production House The Storyboat. This cycle contains hundreds of stories belonging to the Jewish heritage in the Netherlands. As they are barely known in the Netherlands, Production House The Storyboat offers a magnificent chance to bring home this oral tradition that flourished for centuries in the ‘Low Countries’. In non-pandemic times, Production House The Storyboat presents the complete cycles of the Drut’syla tradition to audiences in and around the Netherlands in three-day weekend sessions called Tellers, Tales and Tradition every spring and autumn in the city of Zwolle.
Due to continuous uncertainties around travelling during the COVID-19 pandemic, Production House The Storyboat is offering an online version of a Tellers, Tales and Tradition weekend.
