Join the House of the West Wind: College of Storytelling for a weekend of storytelling, poetry and spoken word, featuring the 2023 and 2024 Step Up Commission Winners!
At the Peel Centre, Dronfield, S18 1PY, with some events available online.
Friday 7-8pm When the Water Turns Blue – Step Up Commission 2023 Karin Lundengård weaves a new myth carrying warnings of the nuclear dangers our civilisation has stored deep underground. ALSO AVAILABLE TO VIEW ONLINE.
Friday 8.30-9.30pm Ghost Stories – Spine Tingling Tales with Simon Heywood, Amy Douglas, Amelia Armande and Cath Edwards. ALSO AVAILABLE TO VIEW ONLINE.
Saturday 11am-1pm How to Tell Ghost Stories Workshop practical workshop with acclaimed storyteller Cath Edwards, exploring types of ghost stories, how to create an atmosphere, and voice techniques. Suitable for beginners and experienced storytellers.
Saturday 2.30-4.30pm The Step Up Cafe Tom S Juniper and special guests present a mash up of cabaret and open mic, storytelling and poetry.
Saturday 7-8pm Waiting at Eldridge – Step Up Commission 2024 PREMIERE Tom S Juniper’s all new show interweaves poetry and storytelling: we may have forgotten the monsters in the shadows, but they haven’t forgotten us. ALSO AVAILABLE TO VIEW ONLINE.
Saturday 8.30-10.30pm The Eldridge Masked Ball: the Step Up Weekend’s aftershow party with ceilidh music, dancing and cake. Dress Code: Monsters and Mortals (folkloric fancy dress optional).
Sunday 10.30am-12.30pm Storywalk around Dronfield join storyteller and author Simon Heywood for a stroll through the streets of Dronfield, interspersed with folktales from Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
