Book launch – Derby

A Garment for the Moon is Anglo-Dutch storyteller Shonaleigh’s first-ever written collection, featuring eighteen of her favorite stories from her family’s long tradition, which she learned in childhood from her grandmother.
These are fabulous wonder tales with names like: The Clever Girl, Avram and the Fireflies, The Cloud Sheep, The Worms’ Complaint, The Dandelion Dancer, Prince Cockerel and Ashmedai’s Melting Bride.
Twelve of these are beautifully illustrated by artist Katherine Soutar. The stories have been edited for print by Tom Muir and Derby University Creative Writing lecturer Simon Heywood, and are the first fruits of a long collaboration telling, teaching, touring and documenting the family tradition.
Shonaleigh and Simon will read and tell a selection from the book and discuss this very unusual and significant oral tradition.
Copies of the book will be available for sale.
