Gathering of Elders with Maori Elder Toroa Aperahama
8pm - 10pm CET
Hosted by storyteller, facilitator and craftsman Jappe Delva, tradition bearers Shonaleigh Cumbers and Toroa Aperahama will share the connections between the ancient stories of the Drut’syla and Maori traditions.
Both Shonaleigh and Toroa where entrusted with their oral traditions by their grandmothers and mentored by them from childhood onwards. They share a deep and intricate tapestry of stories going back to the creation of the world, waiting in the silence to be heard and honoured.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the wisdom that has been passed on for at least two thousand years through the traditions of their people. A chance to find nourishment and belonging that streams from their ancestral stories.
Toroa Aperahama
Raised and taught in the traditional ways of his Ancestors by his Beloved Grandmother, Te Wharehau, Toroa Aperahama is a Maori Elder and Jade, Bone and Timber Carver.
He works directly with his Tupuna (Ancestors), walking both sides of the Physical and Spiritual World, and wishes to share his knowledge through the stories his Taonga tell.
“The stories are my Ancestors speaking, and through my storytelling the listeners “see” the stories through the eyes of my Ancestors. Stories are never lost, they are in the people’s DNA, and the doors just need re-opening.”
