House of the West Wind Summer Lecture with Liz Weir – online
8pm BST (UK time)
SHORTENING THE ROAD: So you want to be a storyteller?
In this lecture for the House of the West Wind: College of Storytelling Liz Weir MBE will reflect on the changes she has seen in her fifty year storytelling career.
She will address issues which she feels are relevant to both new and experienced storytellers.
- Why do it at all?
- Who will listen?
- Who pays for it?
- Should I say yes?
She’ll also share her thoughts on how to work in collaborations, how to “think outside the box”, and how to avoid common pitfalls, and reflect upon how to learn from those who have gone before while leaving a legacy for those who come after us.
Liz Weir started telling stories as a children’s librarian in Belfast in the early 1970s. Since then she has become an internationally renowned storyteller who has shared her tales on five continents.
As Storyteller in Residence with the Armstrong Storytelling Trust www.armstory.org.uk she has spearheaded storytelling development in Northern Ireland and collaborated with colleagues in storytelling organisations throughout the world.
She is the director of the Glens Storytelling Festival , a founder committee member of the Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival and a committee member of Storytellers of Ireland, the all-island national organisation.
Liz was awarded an MBE in 2019 for her services to the arts and to education.
