Tales from Tobias and the Snow Tear – Amsterdam
8pm Amsterdam time
An evening of tales with storyteller Shonaleigh, drawn from Tobias and the Snow Tear, in a cosy environment in the north of Amsterdam.
Tobias owes a debt to a Fire Wolf, a creature of darkness, once human, who has committed a series of such terrible deeds that their soul has become seared and they have been transformed to a fearsome creature of fire and darkness.
As Tobias seeks to redeem this terrible creature, he must pass through seven trials, stories and soul-searing moments. This evening you’ll get to hear about one or two of those.

About the tradition
Shonaleigh is one of Europe’s leading storytellers. Having learned the Drut’syla tradition from the age of four, she carries thousands of oral stories from the Jewish tradition and shares their magic, mystery and wisdom with audiences around the world. She is a living tradition holder. “You hear people talking about the storytelling revival, but in Jewish culture it never died. I lived and breathed the tales during my childhood, unaware that this was anything unusual.”
The Drut’syla tradition is rooted in The Netherlands and Shonaleigh wants to bring the tradition home. One of the cycles that Shonaleigh was taught by her grandmother is the Menassah Cycle. It originated around the year 1600 from the region of Apeldoorn or Oldenzaal, nobody knows the exact place. The cycle contains hundreds of stories that belong to the Jewish heritage in the Netherlands. This is a magnificent chance to get to know this oral tradition.
