Telling History – online course
7.30pm UK time (GMT)
The House of the West Wind: College of Storytelling is delighted to share this online course, applying traditional techniques to real life tales from the past.
Have you ever wanted to tell true tales — tales from history?
Storytelling has undergone a resurgence in museums, historical sites, and heritage interpretation. But there’s so much more to telling history than getting the right facts in the right order.
How do you take the people of the past, get under their skin, and bring them back to life for modern listeners? How do you make bygone years feel like yesterday, bringing all the strangeness and wonder of distant ages to the living moment?
In one way it might seem to be just like telling a folktale or legend. But actually, it couldn’t be more different.
In this brand-new online course, we will be concentrating on forgotten figures from history. Join Shonaleigh as she draws on a lifetime’s experience telling her family’s historical legends, ancient tales, and personal stories, to explore how today’s storytellers can bring the world’s yesterdays to life once more.
Think of a real figure who has stayed in the shadows, whose tale you feel should be told — and begin to research them.
This course is open to anyone interested in traditional stories with some storytelling experience.
There will be five sessions, all live on Zoom at 7.30pm UK time (GMT): 30th September, 7th October, 14th October, 28th October, and 4th November (no session on 21st October).
Tickets priced on a sliding scale:
