Stories for Learning in European Schools Project (2013 ~ 2015)

The TALES project investigated the educational impact of oral and digital storytelling in formal education.

It involved 8 partners – teacher trainers, story tellers and digital experts – from 7 countries across Europe. The project’s activities and outcomes included a state of the art about digital storytelling, documentation on examples of good practice and pilot studies, “stories” created by schools (age range 6-18) and, most importantly, a manual for teachers (published in November 2015).

The Languages Company worked with Goldsmiths, University of London, and the internationally renowned storyteller Shonaleigh Cumbers – one of the last traditionally trained storytellers of the Yiddish drut’syla tradition.

We carried out a pilot of storytelling in teaching primary German at a South London primary school. This is described in the Manual and illustrated in a short video on the website.

The project ran from November 2013 to November 2015.

This article was originally published on the The Languages Company web site.

This video illustrates some of the work of the project and Shonaleigh’s involvement.
